Legacy of Steve Reich: “Tehillim”

  • Trinity Church 89 Broadway New York, New York, 10006 United States (map)

Trinity Choir, Sandbox Percussion, and NOVUS; Melissa Attebury, conductor

Join us for a rare opportunity to experience a contemporary work by Steve Reich presented alongside the Bach piece that inspired him — performed on modern and baroque instruments. Trinity Choir, Sandbox Percussion, and new-music ensemble NOVUS kick off the season with a special program that puts Reich's music in dialogue with the past and present. Viet Cuong opens the program with Next Week’s Trees, a poetic and persistently hopeful work that invites listeners to embrace the beauty of the natural world. Bach’s Christ lag in Todes Banden follows, revealing a spiritual depth that resonates across centuries. We close with Reich’s own era-defining Tehillim, illuminating how he reimagined elements of Bach’s musical language into one of the most distinctive voices of the 20th century.

Registration for this free event is highly recommended as seating is limited.

We suggest arriving 45 minutes before start time. Admission is first-come, first-served, with ticket holders receiving priority (although not guaranteed entrance if the venue reaches capacity).
